Samantha Crain’s new album, out today in the UK on Full Time Hobby, is called Kid Face. This is because, Crain explains, she is regularly mistaken for a 16-year-old. “It gives me a great insight into people’s character and plenty of material as a songwriter,” Crain says, and this is in evidence on ‘Paint’, as she sings: “I’m almost young this year now that I am older.” Nobody, though, who’s heard Crain – who is actually in her mid 20s – sing this song, from the assured vocal through to the wonderfully sparse arrangements, could doubt that she is a mature and fully realised talent.
