Way back in 2002, Conor Oberst released A Christmas Album as Bright Eyes. What was then an online-only release brought together Oberst’s take on 11 standards but it was never designed to soundtrack a Christmas party. The New York Times described it then as “maybe the saddest, sweetest holiday recording you hear all season” and, now that we’ve been able to hear it courtesy of a white vinyl re-release this year, we can only agree.
