With a voice that sounds like the devil cutting loose in a jazz bar, David G Cox packs a lot of variety into his four-track Bag Of Bones EP, but no track shows off what he is all about quite like the title track. Later on the record Cox takes the edge off his vocal to arresting effect on ‘Sparrows’, but it’s the ragged blues of Bag Of Bones that smacks you round the face. You can almost smell the whiskey on Cox’s breath as he sings, “This bag of bones, my body aches, it aches to make you mine” – and you can’t help feeling the devil is trying to tempt us all down to hell. If it sounds this good down there, count us in.
