Following the release of 2017’s Buffalo Hotel, Geoff Gibbons is freeing himself up on his latest single. This comes quite literally for the Vancouver singer-songwriter, who’s hitting the road on ‘Rollin’ Free’. Instrumentally, the song is an old-school Americana arrangement featuring soulful undertones that serve an overarching, pop-driven hook. Gibbons himself maintains the softer croon that he’d introduced to a bevy of listeners with his previous release, but with an added dusting of grit to reflect more of the roots-laden sway of his newest effort.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before we’re given another full album nod from Gibbons, but this heartland rock number will likely be enough to satiate fans for the time being. Evocative of greener pastures on western radio during simpler times, the free-rolling, rollicking nature of this road tune will speak to fans of classic country and, moreover, its alternative cousin, all at once.
