Kendal quartet Wild Beasts’ third single from their much-lauded second album, Two Dancers, ‘We Still Got The Taste…’ is a giddy tale of youthful debauchery and lustful adventures, characteristically told by frontman Hayden Thorpe’s unique countertenor vocals and accompanied by a pleasantly toe-tapping upbeat rhythm.
Opening with what can only be described as a melodious wolf-howl, the vocals flirt charmingly with the driving guitars over the four minutes, with lines like “frocks spill like alchopop around girls knees/ trousers and blouses make excellent sheets/ down dimly lit streets” delivering a troubling call to arms for the Skins generation.
The single is out 22nd March, and should serve as both an attractive taster of Wild Beasts’ sound and as a fitting introduction to the album, for those who have yet to hear it.
