Back in July, Magana stunned the For Folk’s Sake audience with the premiere of ‘Inches Apart’. Now, the “bedroom folk” singer-songwriter is continuing her ascent with the release of another single. In a stroke of fate, this time around it’s a cover from another FFS favorite, CHUCK.
Originally from off of CHUCK’s recentĀ Frankenstein Songs for the Grocery Store EP, Magana brings her own magic to this new rendition of the song. The track may clock in at just under two minutes, but the one minute and fifty-eight seconds of run time that she has here she uses with the same hypnotic elegance that we’ve come to expect from the indie folk star.

Most present on her interpretation of “Oceans” is Magana’s ability to shine a light on abstract themes. She breaks down the lyrics of the song into parts that seem altogether whole. All in all, she takes us into a world that is altogether developed by a scathing reflection on human fragility and disconnection. Something that seems so utterly lonely and impersonal is made to feel that way here, yet it’s all with the same warmth and grace that Magana has become known for.
If you like what you hear, you can go ahead and download the single for free via Magana’s Bandcamp page. Additionally, you can also name your price to tip the artist and support her continued release of music down the road.
