Lofty Heights, Greg Griffin to his parents, is about to carve a nice little path out for himself and his debut single, ‘Eye Contact’ is about to set him on his cheery way. The California-born Londoner brings ukeleles, steel guitars, double bass and rickety drums together in a way that instantly tickles a smile.
The swaying backing masks the clever, sobering lyrics, “While we are making love the Far East is looming/So keep your oyster cards at bay.” He’s taken good old sing-along folk and slurred a yarn about our ever-changing society- name dropping Google and Oyster cards- and berating the rich and plastic. Add to that a swooning chorus, you have an impressive start for Lofty Heights.
