‘Send Me an Angel Down’ is a soaring, soulful debut from Kill It Kid. It is hard to ignore the fact lead singer Chris Turpin’s voice sounds almost exactly like Anthony Hegarty’s. Or that ‘Send Me an Angel Down’, is a brilliant and mature pop song, way beyond the band’s tender years.
The five piece from Bath cite blues and bluegrass influences, but we are talking about inspiration here, rather than imitation. The emotion is sublime, twisted, defiant and fragile and all those other words that describe great songs about relationships.
I want to say it is original too, but it does sound like Anthony and the Johnsons. But hey, is that such a bad thing?
