Sam Pace and the Gilded Grit are generally known for the electric, eclectic blues. Their new single, ‘Bubala’, strips things back into an acoustic affair. The stripped-back approach doesn’t ground Pace in mediocrity, though; an artist of his prowess is able to use the dialed-down arrangement to swing with a compelling saunter and poise. His trademark weighty vocals are given further prominence, which is taken full advantage of in the whoop and holler of the song’s hook.
On the tune, Pace tells For Folk’s Sake, “’Bubala’ is the most stripped down, bare-bones single I have ever released- and yet there is something very special about it for me. The song is an acoustic exploration of the effect of sweetness on the subconscious, with a bellowing hook to boot.”
‘Bubala’ is the first of a long line of releases that Pace has planned for 2021, which he deems to be his most prolific year yet. It precedes both a summer LP and an autumnal acoustic EP, as well as a number of incoming singles. Ergo, this Pace doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
‘Bubala’ is available to stream now via Spotify.
