Topic, described as “Europe’s oldest truly independent label”, will welcome in the new year by going back to the future as they begin The Great Big Digital Archive Project.
The 74-year-old label is aiming to make all of its back catalogue avilable digitally – along with digital booklets of the original artwork and explanatory YouTube videos – and they will begin with the first batch of 84 in January.
This will include artists like Ewan MacColl, June Taybor and Peggy Seegar – the type of artists who have influenced so many of those we feature on For Folk’s Sake every day.
The project will make a huge wealth of material available digitally, much of which has been out of print for 20 years or more.
The nice people at Topic have provided a handy video to explain the idea, or you can find out more at their website.
