Fans of sixties folkie Donovan have been given advance warning to catch his live show while they can before he retires from performing in 2010. The veteran folk singer will undertake a farewell tour over 2009 and 2010 (precise dates have not yet been announced), with a new album ’Ritual Groove’ also expected at some point next year.
A possible reason for Donovan’s retirement is his continued interest in transcendental meditation which he discovered whilst in Rishikesh with The Beatles in 1967. Unlike his Fab friends however, Donovan has remained a vocal supporter of meditation and recently announced his intention to open ‘The Invincible Donovan University’ in Scotland to focus on the technique.
But for all his more leftfield explorations, Donovan has remained a likeable and talented performer. For Folk’s Sake would like to wish him a fond farewell.
