Brian’s Mixtape | Especially for Film

Harold and Maude

Dear readers,

My playlist this week is inspired by a world so ostentatious that it may even be more flashy than that of music. A medium which draws a fascination from even those who own more albums by Boyzone than they do The Beatles, and which can be the most exquisite frame for even the most banal of ditties. The world of film.

There have been many cinematic exploits which have drawn in fine songwriters and persuaded them to create a musical backdrop to what was being portrayed on screen. Many excellent examples are included in this week’s playlist, though I decided to omit ‘Bright Eyes’ (from the stunning ‘Watership Down’) for fear it may move us to tears in some inappropriate moment. Naturally I have complete control of my emotions, but I am aware that many of you are somewhat weak.

Yours stoically,

Brian
