Brian’s been agonising over our Schmercuries shortlist this weekend, trying to work out which of the wonderful albums to vote for in our poll. Sadly, FFS’s resident owl is quite the procrastinator, so what he’s actually done is pick his favourite song from each album. Whilst this hasn’t helped him make his mind up, it has produced a lovely little playlist to be shared with his friends on the interweb.

Emmy the Great, or Emma-Lee Moss if you like things official, sings beautiful-sounding songs with dark, tortured souls. Her first album, ‘First Love’, was released on Close Harbour in 2009 and her second album, ‘Virtue’, was self-released in 2011. No show for Emmy as Stars of Sunday League launch EP
Emmy the Great’s much hinted at appearance at The Stars of Sunday League EP launch show last night was not to be.
Stars of Sunday League’s Euan Robinson put on the show in conjunction with Platforms to launch his debut EP The Boy’s Got Prospects. And he used his contacts to create a stellar line-up of big names and new finds. Euan said on the night: “I asked a lot of bands that I like, but I had no idea so many would say yes.”

Stars of Sunday League are set to launch their debut EP, ‘The Boy’s Got Prospects’ this Monday (3rd August), and some pretty strong hints are flying around the internet, suggesting that the act billed as ‘A Special Secret Friend’ may be none other than Emmy the Great.

Southbank announces Emmy the Great and Laura Marling summer shows
The Southbank Centre has announced it’s series of summer gigs, which features folk artists Laura Marling, Emmy the Great, Mary Gaulthier and Emiliana Torrini.

Emmy the Great New EP, London show and message for Gordon Brown
Since the undeniable wonder of the album First Love, Emmy the Great has been touring like a superwoman, planning a tour of Asia and preparing for Glastonbury, but she’s still squeezed in time to record a new EP. ‘Edward’ will be released in July on limited 12″ vinyl and MP3, and after that will be included in all new issues of First Love.

Communion has announced a corker of a line-up for its first festival. The London – and now Brighton – night organised by Kev Jones of Cherbourg and Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons, has curated a folk stage at Bloom in Bristol.
