“Today I released my first EP, which is surprising for someone who still has his email as “penguinsruleok” from when he was ten years old.” So began a message we got from Michigan native James Li, who works under the name Liance. That aforementioned EP is called Visions of Victoria, and Li certainly paints a picture in his description of its recording: “I recorded this EP like an amateur and less romantic Justin Vernon/Bon Iver – bunkered down in a small dorm basement storage room full of asbestos and stuffy carpet from the 80’s,” he said. “During mixing we made sure to carefully EQ out the sound of students gently pissing in the room above us.” While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend that process, we can’t argue with the results.
