Listening to Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe singing “oh no sir, I must say you’re wrong” on this stunning cover version it’s not hard to convince yourself the lyrics were written specially for him. In fact he has teamed up with Jon Hopkins to provide this version of a Q Lazzarus track as a B side to the original’s re-release this month. If the vocal is occasionally in the same ballpark as the original, little else is. With none of the 80s excesses, you could say it’s the Michael Andrews and Gary Jules to Q Lazzarus’ Tears For Fears, but that wouldn’t do it justice. It’s a spare, haunting thing of beauty.
