One of Nancy Elizabeth’s many talents is to create startlingly different tracks from familiar sounds. Her latest track ‘Heart’, from her upcoming third album Dancing, does exactly that: it is instantly recognisable as Nancy and yet sounds like nothing she’s done before. It’s a rich and complex sound, but when you break it down – apart from a hint of a synthesiser on a couple of occasions – there’s nothing to it except for skittish percussion, precisely picked out piano and layered vocals, which become an instrument in their own right and provide the urgency a lyric like “For him, I removed my very skin” deserves. Bring on Dancing.
