Dear readers,
As you know, I am not generally the sort of owl to indulge in frivolities of a plebeian level. Television broadcasts such as The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent only serve, in my opinion, to prove Britain’s mass delusion as to their “talent”. I must admit, however, that I cannot help but to aspire to Simon Cowell’s level of unashamed superiority.
It may come as somewhat of a surprise, therefore, to learn that I find the Eurovision Song Contest to be a creation of unrivalled joy. From the representation of each nation’s culture and taste to the blatantly biased point scoring, each minute involves more entertaining viewing than an entire hour and a half of The Voice. To celebrate Saturday’s competition, I have gathered some songs which loosely represent some of the wonderful countries to be found beyond our fair isle.
Yours xenophilially,
Brian
