Lousie Hull, formally known alongside her London-based band as Louise & the Pins, combines perfect folk with rock n’ roll to create inspired melodies with the help of her talented band + backing singers. Her glamorous 50’s style look and her smokey voice make it hard not to love her. Performing recently with artists such as Laura Marling, this girl has been receiving a lot of deserved attention, and FFS were lucky enough to ask her some questions.
Hello, please introduce yourself and your music to the uninitiated.
Hi, I’m Louise and the Pins. Hmm music wise, I fancy myself as a bit of a torch singer, there are elements of folk, rockabilly, country in the music.
Tell us a bit about your last/latest single?
It’s called Bell Jar, and it’s released on the 9th April through Chess Club records. It’s a pretty emotional song, it’s sad but it’s hopeful.
What was your best ever gig?
We played some lovely shows last year, Conway Hall in London on the Laura Marling tour was a really great venue. And Glastonbury was a great experience too.
What’s the worst thing about being a musician?
Being broke!
What inspires you?
I write alot from personal experience, but the feel of the songs comes from all over, old films, a beautiful woman, poetry, places i’ve been to..
If you won a billion pounds what would you do with it?
I have no idea. I think I’d just walk around for a week and not tell anyone. Then I’d have a big party that lasted about a month. I’d give most of it away I think, and buy my dad an old Harley.
Out of your songs: which is your favourite and why?
It changes, I always like playing the new ones, as they’re still fresh. I have a new song that I really enjoy singing, called Back to Square One.
What are you plans for the future?
To be a successful musician/singer/writer. I’d also like to score a film. And I’d like to paint more. I wanna be someone’s wife one day, but not quite yet.
Finally, we’re always looking to expand our musical horizons. Do you have any recommendations of bands or artists we should be looking out for?
Jamie N Commons is a great artist, and so is Jake Bugg.
Louise has a new single out, “The Bell Jar” on 9th April.
