Laura Marling is to head out for a second major UK tour in support of her third album A Creature I Don’t Know with a string of dates lined up for March 2012. Where her October tour was a series of intimate shows at cathedrals around the country, Marling will next year play her largest ever UK headline show when her tour bus stops off at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on March 7th.
The tour dates give us our first concrete look at Marling’s plans for 2012 after she hinted we could hear something very different in the new year. In an interview with the Guardian this weekend, Marling said she might explore an entirely different sound, perhaps even using a different name.
“I’d like to make music for as long as I can; it feels like something I need to do,” Marling said. “But I would like to do things a bit differently. I think I might be coming into my electric phase…
“My first love was punk, and my current love is punk, so maybe there’s a punk album coming, though I probably wouldn’t do it under my name.”
All we can say for sure is that any side project along those lines probably wouldn’t lead to another cathedral tour…
